SHRINK SLEEVES HELP BAYER GARDEN GROW ON-SHELF APPEAL

In order to provide user-friendly packaging for consumers with greater on-shelf appeal, the packs for the latest range of garden products from Bayer Garden, including five variants in trigger sprays, feature eye-catching sleeves supplied by CCL Decorative Sleeves.

The move from traditional labels was prompted by the need to provide greater flexibility for on-pack information in order to enhance ease of use for the consumer. This is the first time that sleeves have been selected for trigger packs in this market, and CCL Decorative Sleeves worked closely with Bayer Garden to ensure a smooth transition to the new form of decoration.

The 1 litre trigger sprays include the new Advanced Weedkiller range, in addition to the relaunch of several existing products including Ultimate Bug Killer Ready to Use and Ant Killer Spray. Sleeves are also being used for the first time on 400g and 1kg packs of the market-leading Slug and Snail Killer.

The sleeves are manufactured in 50 micron PET and gravure printed in eight colours, featuring relevant illustrations of each product’s capabilities. The combination of the attractive shrink sleeve and the brightly coloured pack creates a distinctive container with striking impact on shelf. Equally important, the sleeve design and 360° coverage allow plenty of room for essential product information and ‘how to use’ instructions, which in-depth research by Bayer identified as a key consumer requirement and a major differentiator between brands.

As Alison Mulvaney at Bayer Garden explains, “The nature of our products means that packs need to feature a large amount of regulatory text, safety instructions and ‘how to use’ guidelines which can be restrictive in terms of pack design. Including all this detail as well as producing a pack that is user-friendly and bright and appealing on shelf is an ongoing challenge and we wanted to find a solution with greater flexibility.”

Sleeves all-over coverage means the required text can be included without encroaching on the pack’s graphic design. For example, text can be included on the contoured parts of the container, which would not be possible with adhesive labels.

“We are delighted with the move to shrink sleeves which has vastly improved the visual appeal of the packs,” concludes Alison Mulvaney. “The additional space has enabled us to combine the need for clear, easy-to-read labels with high impact designs. Gardeners will find the packs much easier to use which is a message we are promoting to the consumer market as an added benefit of the product range.”
